ASI News Update: Advancing Sustainable Infrastructure Across Sri Lanka!
In recent months, the Alliance for Sustainable Infrastructure (ASI) has been at the forefront of promoting sustainable development through various initiatives and partnerships across Sri Lanka. From district-level forums to national collaborations, ASI continues to drive positive change and empower communities towards a more sustainable future.
Establishment of People's Forums
ASI's commitment to community-driven development was highlighted by the establishment of People's Forums on Sustainable Infrastructure in multiple districts. In the Ampara District, the inaugural session of the People's Forum convened stakeholders from public, private, and civil society sectors to address critical infrastructure challenges. Discussions centered around projects impacting local communities, with plans devised to gather information and engage authorities for timely solutions. Similar successes were celebrated in Jaffna and Trincomalee districts, where ASI forged partnerships with local organizations to address community concerns and drive sustainable development initiatives.
National-Level Collaborations
ASI's efforts transcended district boundaries with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with esteemed partner organizations. The collaboration with COSMI paved the way for a national-level multi-stakeholder forum on Sustainable Infrastructure, slated for June 2024 in Colombo. This forum aims to consolidate insights from district-level discussions and advocate for a national policy on sustainable infrastructure. Additionally, ASI partnered with the National Fisheries Solidarity Movement (NAFSO) to establish the Sustainable Infrastructure Forum for the Trincomalee District, demonstrating a commitment to addressing local challenges through collaborative action.
Empowering Communities and Engaging Stakeholders
ASI's dedication to empowering communities and engaging stakeholders was evident in its grassroots efforts. The Nuwara Eliya District People's Forum on Sustainable Infrastructure saw proactive discussions with government officials to ensure robust support for community-driven initiatives. Similarly, SIDPS organized a dynamic discussion on regional infrastructure governance, highlighting the pivotal role of civil society in shaping sustainable development agendas. Furthermore, SWOAD facilitated discussions with community representatives in the Thirukovil region, setting the stage for meaningful community engagement in sustainable infrastructure development.
Looking Ahead
As ASI continues its mission to advance sustainable infrastructure across Sri Lanka, there is a sense of optimism and momentum. The collaborative spirit demonstrated through partnerships and forums underscores the collective commitment to driving positive change and building a more sustainable future for all. With upcoming events and initiatives on the horizon, including the national-level multi-stakeholder forum and ongoing district-level engagements, ASI remains steadfast in its pursuit of sustainable development and community empowerment.
